Not every event has hundreds of guests at some big venue with multiple courses of food and valet parking and so on and so forth. You could have a party or event with 30 guests, 20 guests, even 10. They are still your guests at your event and you want them to have a smashing time. It’s like the old saying, “Size Doesn’t Matter’. It’s true, especially if your small event is made extra memorable by your entertainment.
Performers have no problem with small crowds. In fact, some performers specialize in smaller groups and really shine. You wouldn’t have, for example, a big live band as you wouldn’t want the entertainers to outnumber your guests. Or you wouldn’t have a hypnotist as they usually require a large audience in order to find the right subjects for their performance.

1) Close Up Magician – Most of us know magicians work no a stage in front of an audience but some magicians have an additional ability to amaze you right next to you. You can hire a strolling magician to perform what’s called ‘close up magic‘ for your guests. This is a magician who can walk upto three people chatting and immediately grab their attention and their amazement with some sleight of hand. I was at an event once when a magician walked up to me and, while chatting with me, produced a book of matches in one hand and then, with the wave of his other hand, the book of matches appeared to levitate off of his palm and floated over it for a moment until he ended it. To this day, I still wonder how he did that.
2) Palm Reader – Most mysticism for your guests. There may be nothing more personal that some who actual holds you hand and tells you what the fates have in store for you. This is really fun for a small get together. The best part is while each guest gets their palm read, everyone else hears all the details while anticipating their turn.
3) Storyteller – This is an individual who can totally captivate a small crowd with their ability to reel in their listener and keep them hooked (sorry about the fishing analogies). While the Storyteller is a performer, their ‘trick’ is that the guests don’t feel that way about the Storyteller. It’s as if there’s another guest at your event who’s really good at telling stories. There’s an intimacy, a ‘folksiness’, a connection and and earnestness that you don’t get from a more conventional performer.
4) Caricaturist – Very good for a small get together. A talented Caricaturist will delight everyone as they see each other transformed into an entertaining cartoon version caricature of themselves. Like the other performers listed here, this is a very individualized form of entertainment and it’s the fact that there aren’t a lot of people there that would allow you this kind of intimacy between your guests and your entertainment.
